Remembering the ‘90s: Bayside! The UnMusical!

Bayside! The UnMusical! is a musical parody of Saved by the Bell performed at the intimate Kraine Theater on 4th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. This is a performance where you will laugh for sixty minutes, look back, and have no idea what just happened. The show’s plot is (very) loosely based on the gang’s efforts to save the local (and only) hangout, The Max (they need to raise $500!). Taglines from the show include: “Will Kelly and Zack break up FOREVER?!”, “Is Slater going to quit wrestling?!”, “Who will develop an incurable caffeine addiction?!”, and “Will Screech die?!”.  (Spoiler: Screech will not die).

If you spent your childhood afternoons (and then mornings when it was moved to the TBS 7-9 a.m. timeslot) watching Saved by the Bell, you will appreciate the attention to detail. Quips about Stacey Karosi, jokes about the poorness of Kelly’s dad (remember that prom episode??), and the time Zack scored better than Jessie on the SATs. Even the most casual Saved by the Bell watcher will enjoy the stellar 90’s playlist as you walk in and giggle at the 90’s references and the absurdity of what happens on stage.

Warning: If you are easily offended or adverse to mild vulgarity, this may not be the show for you. Especially where Hot Sundae, comprised of Jessie, Lisa, and Kelly, perform the raunchy version of “Go For It!” Otherwise, everyone else should grab some friends and enjoy this one-hour Zack Attack (sorry, couldn’t help myself). Bayside! The Unmusical! is playing every Tuesday and Wednesday until October 17. The show plays at The Kraine Theater, 85 East 4th Street. Tickets are $15 and you can find them at:
