Depending on the type of student you are, you may view the start of a new school year with a sense of anticipation or an enormous amount of trepidation. Regardless of your own sentiment, almost no one would begrudge themselves a snow day. In fact, Cardozo had several of those last year. But a hurricane day is something new.
On August 26, at 4:26 PM, President Joel sent a University wide email announcing the postponement of Fall Orientation at Yeshiva University Undergraduate campuses from Sunday, August 28, to Monday, August 29. In his email, he noted that:
“Because of the dangers the hurricane could pose to our campuses and our students, families and staff, we are, like other New York universities, postponing by one day the start of Fall Orientation… For your safety, no one should plan to arrive at YU before Monday.”
Approximately an hour and a half later, Cardozo’s Vice-Dean Stein sent an email explaining that “we expect that the Law School building and the library will be open on Sunday and that classes will be held as scheduled on Monday. Check the Cardozo website, your email, or ANGEL for updates as we monitor the situation.”
The NYC MTA has already announced that they will begin a system-wide shut down of trains and buses this Saturday at noon, grocery store lines in the union square area are already extending down the block, and many students have started to speculate about the possibility of a school closure on Monday. Whether or not that will occur remains to be seen.
Cardozo students: What will you be doing during the hurricane?
